The Oticon Opn 1 – built on Oticon’s Velox Platform – was initially released on April 14th, 2016. Here we are in mid-2017 still talking about it. A year later, I still keep seeing amazing reviews from customers and hearing care professionals. I’m writing my own review because of the awesome, personal experience I’ve had with this hearing aid.

I am a disabled US Army retiree, and the primary care giver for my wife who is disabled from an auto accident, and suffers from severe dementia. I understand that the VA would provide hearing devices, but when I inquired I was told it would take 6 to 8 weeks to get them. I did schedule appointments, but had to cancel due to an ongoing sinus infection. I needed the devices right away, because when my wife needs something, if I am not right beside her, I had trouble hearing her. I inquired about the time to get them from the Center for Audiology, and was told about 1 week, so I proceeded with them, knowing I would be responsible for the cost. Oticon is made in Switzerland and they do not stand behind their product other than the warranty they give you, and you're on your own after that unless you buy extended warranty for the seller here in Canton, Ohio. The Bluetooth is the worst I’ve ever had in a hearing aid. As in the past I would use a regular Bluetooth device as I would remove one of my hearing aids to do so. I would think with the premium price that Oticon charges they would work flawlessly. As I’m connected and on a call one hearing aid cuts out and I miss half of what the other person is saying.
At least the Unitrons gave me directional settings which are completely unavailable with Oticon. I downloaded the OticonOn app to my iPhone. I appreciate that Bluetooth technology allows phone calls to be heard directly through my hearing aids. HOWEVER, the phone app cuts out if I laugh, cough, sneeze, or jingle a set of keys. Any other sudden loud noise in the environment causes similar effect.
